Route Descriptions, Profiles and Data Files

21km Route Description:

Runners will start on the road as a nice easy warm up before they turn left onto the rocky jeep track to go over the first koppie and past the dam this is easy running you will then hit a nice single track before entering the cave .Please note the cave is dark and short sections are incredibly technical – it will be lit up but we advise you to walk until you see the light at the end of the tunnel – after the cave you will have a typical MRLT no path going up the hill to run alongside the fence and enter the next farm here again you will have easy running on a road before turning left into go over the river- the river is flowing nicely so it does get a little slippery take care after the river you will see an old wall which you will need to pull yourself over here you will run along the single track before a sharp turn veers you off into the bushes to go up past the quarry and through the gorge – DO NOT MISS THIS TURN there will be an arrow and the tape is very well marked. At the top of the gorge you will run along a jeep track for a short while before another sharp turn takes you down to the river – again this is on no path. Cross the river over the cement bridge and shortly after you will have a sharp turn to your right to go up the jeep track, no track and single track over the koppies. Here you will have a beautiful view of hartebesspoort dam. Cross the road and you will be heading back to Leeuwenkloof on a combination of no path and single track. Please note you will need to crawl under or climb over the fence at this point again well marked. Your last 3 km are on easy running jeep track so those who want to have a final sprint this is the time to do it. The route is 99% runnable and is the easiest of the series so we are expecting fast times. Also we have thrown in an extra km for you so total route is 21km. There will be 2 water points on route.

13km Route Description:

As you start you will immediately turn right towards the parking after about 700m you will start your climb on easy running jeep track , this will take you through beautiful grasslands and you will meet up with the 20km path to go onto the single track towards the cave. Please note the cave is dark and short sections are incredibly technical – it will be lit up but we advise you to walk until you see the light at the end of the tunnel – after the cave you will have a typical MRLT no path going up the hill to run alongside the fence and enter the next farm here again you will have easy running on a road before turning left into go over the river- the river is flowing nicely so it does get a little slippery take care after the river you will see an old wall which you will need to pull yourself over here you will run along the single track before a sharp turn veers you off into the bushes to go up past the quarry and through the gorge – DO NOT MISS THIS TURN there will be an arrow and the tape is very well marked. Cross the river over the cement bridge and shortly after you will have a sharp turn to your right to go up the jeep track, no track and single track over the koppies. Please note you will need to crawl under or climb over the fence at this point again well marked. The 20km athletes will turn right and you will continue straight at this point until you hit the road to finish. We have been cruel and kind and given you an extra 2km so the 12km is actually 14km :) There will be one water point on route.

6km Route Description:

As you start you will immediately turn right towards the parking after about 700m you will start your climb on easy running jeep track , this will take you through beautiful grasslands and you will meet up with the 20km path to go onto the single track towards the cave. Please note the cave is dark and short sections are incredibly technical – it will be lit up but we advise you to walk until you see the light at the end of the tunnel – after the cave you will run a bit on jeep track the 12km and 20km will split away from you- shortly after this split though you will also head up the koppie on a typical MRLT no path – we have made this section quite technical as this is our signature so for 800m you will be clambering over rocks and through grasslands thereafter you will descend back onto the jeep track to finish. Distance is 5.3km There will be one water point on route
